DUNCAN ADDS TWO MORE TITLES IN LAKEVILLE'S BLOW OUT

Lakeville, Ohio
Saturday, September 24, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Another action packed racing show with some great weather closed out the 2005 season during the 10th annual Dirt Blow Out on an emotional week-end at Lakeville.
The Big Four Series for the Super Late Models was the headliner of the program with Wooster's Doug Drown blowing the field away in the 40 lap event as the Wooster Glass, MCP Inc., and Boles & Boreman Enterprises #12 led all the way to pocket his second Big Four win of the year. D.J Cline who started 7th held off J.R. Gentry for second as those two ended up tied for second in series points. Charlie Duncan was running second and spun out early in the race, came back to take ninth which earned him the points championship for the third time in four years. Rick Bond captured fourth in the feature while 18th starting Dave Hornikel hustled to fifth. Heat winners on Friday were Tom Baker, Duncan, and Drown as Mansfield's Clint Coffman posted the last chance win.
Keith Pierce set the pace for the first three laps of the Steel Block Triple Crown Series final but after that it was all Wooster's Charlie Duncan as he cruised the Swift Auto Parts and Bishop Collision Repair Center #11 to the win and secured the Series title. D.J. Cline was the runner-up with Eric Smitley, Kristin Flory, and Brad Moore filling in the top five. Duncan and Pierce won the Friday heats.
The Modifieds were the most exciting race of the night as Mike Lonas was high tailing it around for the first 13 laps when the caution flew. On the restart, Sunbury's Rob Stambaugh put on a power move in the low groove and swiped the lead away from Lonas with Took Wiles hounding both of them and would slip into the top spot briefly as Lonas reclaimed the point on lap 22 but two laps later, Lonas and Wiles got hooked together, ending their chance of the win. From then on it was the Alum Creek Towing, Pauly's Machine Shop, and Buckeye Muffler & Brake #67 leading the way to the checkered flag. Chasing Stambaugh to the line was David Liles, Ron Miller, Rory Reed, and 16th starting Rob Cutlip. Topping the Friday heats were Stambaugh, Wayne Maffett Jr. and Wiles.
Rushville's IN. Tate Martz went flag to flag to win the USAC FF Midget feature with Jimmy Light right on the rear of Martz at the line. It was the second win at Lakeville for the two time champ of the Midwest Focus Series. Kyle Robbins ran third with the Daugherty boys, Nick and Luke in fourth and fifth. James Robertson and Light were the heat winners on Friday.
The Pure Stocks put on a fan pleasing race with Fred Snyder setting the pace for the first 13 laps as Galion's Todd Swim surfed his way to the front at that time and scored his first win aboard the Advance Auto Parts, Smith Fabricating, and W.L. Logan Trucking #57. Snyder kept second with the 55 Chevy of Tim Myers taking third with three laps to go as and Tony Paynter taking fourth with two laps to go as Dave Haven Jr. clung to a top five finish. Friday heat winners were Rick Frame and Paynter.
Wooster's Hud Wharton started the Quality Fiberglass, Wharton Excavating, and Kato's Bottle House #27 on the pole and never looked back for the Fall Championship Cruisers victory. It was a battle royale for the rest of the top five as Paul McVicker, Bill Severe, Ken Yarosh, and Todd Gallion put a choke hold on the top five finishing spots. Friday's heat wins went to Wharton, Kyle Cline and Fred West.
For the 8th time this year, Mansfield's Henry Britton parked the Hall's Auto Sales, TBS Carpet Outlet, and Wright Choice Auto Sales #81 in the Fall Championships victory lane for the Mini Stocks. Sean Rush ran second with Brandon Morrow, Eric Patrick, and 17th starting John Gardiner rounding out the top five. Dale Beckett, Glenn Elliott Jr., Sean Rush, and Morrow won the heats on Friday with Gary Hensel Jr. of Wooster nailing down the 'B' win.
Friday nights mini truck feature had North Lawrence's Dave Caskey picking up his first win with a flag to flag run in the #02. Joe Hoover was in hot pursuit but settled for second in front of Mike Cottrell, Tom Garlick, and Gerald Pringle.  Caskey and Rick Jensen topped the heat races.

LAKEVILLE CHAMPIONSHIPS GO DOWN TO THE WIRE

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, September 16, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Although rain was all around and after a shower at 5 p.m., it stayed dry for the season championships at Lakeville Friday Night as four drivers claimed the crowns and two others shared one. The top six in points for the late models ran a heat race that would determine the starting line up for the feature with Luke Bieri winning and starting on the pole with points leader Charlie Duncan of Millersburg alongside. Duncan and his Ken Adams Trucking, Leroy's Place, and Cherokee Builders #17 got an early scare when Wes Morrison Sr. slowed on the front stretch and Duncan made contact trying to get around and after some sheet metal was pulled away from the right front tire, Duncan pulled away from the field to secure his fourth championship since 1999. It was a dogfight for the rest of the top five with Bieri, Dave Bucher, and Eric Smitley running for the second spot until Bieri spun on lap 17. Behind them, Brad Moore, Art Ball, Gabe McIntire, Mike Bores, and Kristin Flory put on a show for top five positioning. On the last lap, Smitley slipped past Bucher for second with Moore taking fourth and Mike Bores taking fifth from his 12th starting place in his first visit to Lakeville this year. Jamie Reed and Moore also won heats.
For the pure stocks Fred Snyder had a five point lead over Ashland's Hiram Bachmann to start the night and with every position worth five points, Snyder needed to finish in front of Bachmann for the title. After their heat race, the feature line up had Shaun Cains on the pole and Bachmann beside him and Snyder in the third slot. At the drop of the green, Bachmann jumped into the lead with Snyder in tow and that was the way they finished as the Dundee driver stayed on the rear bumper of the R & J Body and Fender, Mufflers and More, and Rahall's Graphics #92 and the two claimed the co-championship. Cains held on to third with Don Baney and Mike Graber filling out the top five. Chad Craver claimed the other heat win.
Big Prairie's Mason Radcliff had a 90 point advantage going into the cruiser finale and needed almost all of it to claim his second straight crown. Fred West would start on the pole of the feature by winning the heat and Radcliff would start fourth and the two ran one - two from the second circuit on until the pair made contact on lap 11 with the axle breaking on Radcliff's #69 and dropping him to a 15th place finish which would end up giving him a 25 point bulge over Paul McVicker who would finish second in the feature as the Crossroads Trading Post and JJ's Auto Sales #71 of Mansfield's Fred West would post his fourth win of the year. Rounding out the top five were Kyle Cline, Frank Oriti and James Gerbasi. Hud Wharton and Oriti posted heat wins also.
The mini stock crown had been claimed by Millersburg's Dale Beckett two week's ago, his 4th straight championship, and as he took the night off the feature as usual was wide open with Millersburg's Willie Coblentz starting second beside heat winner Sean Rush and with Henry Britton in the mix, the threesome would be less than two car lengths apart the rest of the way as Britton would sneak into the top spot on laps ten and 11 but Coblentz would come back to claim his first ever feature win. Rush would hold third with Brian Dawson and Justin Brown following. Other heat winners were J.R. Cagle, Matt Searls, and Kalvi Puru. Coshocton's Andy Parks won the 'B' feature.

Mohicanville's Tom Kemp started the mini truck night with a 65 point lead and was running second in the feature when the #34 locked up and stopped running and that dropped him to a 12th place finish but it was good enough to gather in the championship as Jeff Funk finished second and finished 15 tallies behind Kemp. North Lawrence's Chaz O' Dell led all the way as the soft spoken youngster picked up his second win of the season. Tom Garlick was third with Joe Hoover fourth and fifth went to Mike Cottrell, who was a heat winner with Brandon Leyda.

LONAS, MENSCHING, YAROSH, BRITTON, & FUNK CAPTURE LAKEVILLE CHECKERS

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, September 9, 2005
By Mike Swanger

It was the last regular night of racing as next Friday will be the season championships for the five classes. The late model feature started with Jamie Reed bolting into the lead only to have his car conk out on lap three and turning the front spot over to Brad Moore, who would build up a half a lap advantage on the field until all the juice in the battery drained out on lap 18, ending the youngsters chance of the win. That put Mansfield's Mike Lonas out front in the #77 car, and he held off Eric Smitley, last weeks winner, and Tony Cline the last six laps to collect his second win of the season and his 49th career win at Lakeville. Art Ball started 15th and worked his way through the field to take 4th while Jim Gingery edged out Kristen Flory for 5th. Heat winners were Smitley and Reed.
Wooster's Travis Mensching fought off Mike Graber the last half of the pure stock feature as he parked the #79 in victory circle for the first time ever. Roger Drouhard was a close third with Don Baney and Hiram Bachman filling out the top five. With Fred Snyder finishing sixth,
Snyder will take a five point lead over Bachmann into next weeks championship, the closest points battle going. Graber and Snyder topped the heat races.
Starting 17th, Wellington's Ken Yarosh worked his way through the field of the cruiser main and with two laps to go in the 15 lap event, took the lead away from Paul McVicker and scored his second straight win in the #1. Driving a borrowed car from Tim Shaver, Brett Burgess drove to third with points leader Mason Radcliff and Fred West rounded out the top five. Don Baney and Mike Amstutz claimed the heats.
Henry Britton of Mansfield has the knack of pulling out victories on the last lap of the mini stock mains and this week he out hustled Mark Gardiner out of turn four as the checkered flag was waving, to notch his 7th win of the year aboard the Wright Choice Auto Sales, Bargain Shed, and Carroll's Auto Wrecking #81.  Steve Miller was right behind the two front runners with Sean Rush and Dale Beckett, who has his fourth straight championship wrapped up already. Mansfield's Kyle Moore won the 'B' feature with Greg Breckler, Justin Brown, Kalvi Puru, and Rush taking the heat wins.
Wild action in the r mini truck main with Brandon Craver setting the early pace until he slipped off the track on lap 10 as he was dueling with Jeff Funk. Two laps later, Craver was trying to work his way back up front and made contact with Chaz O'Dell and ended up on his side, ending his night. Funk, of Ashland, would fend off a run by Tom Kemp at the line as the Meyers Tires, T. Garlick Excavating, and Kato's Bottle House #21 would collect his fifth win of the year. Craver was the heat winner.

SMITLEY SCOOTS TO FIRST LAKEVILLE LATE MODEL WIN

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, September 2, 2005
By Mike Swanger

The weather was perfect at Lakeville as four drivers earned their first wins of the season with Orrville's Eric Smitley picking up his first ever win in the late model event. Teammate Dave Bucher set the pace for the opening two laps before the Smitley's Towing, Johnson's Woods, and Heather's Studio # e1 of Smitley took over and lead the last 23 laps. Eighth starting Charlie Duncan brought out the caution on lap three and on the restart it was Smitley, Bucher, Brad Moore, Jim Gingery, and Art Ball. Jamie Reed would slip past Ball for 5th on lap 7 and Moore would take second from Bucher. Lap 14 was not kind to two of the top fiver' s as 4th running Gingery hit the wall and Moore cut a tire. This would put Gabe McIntire and Duncan back in the top 5 with McIntire spinning two laps later for another caution. On the restart, Duncan took second from Bucher but could not make a run on Smitley. Kristin Flory finished third ahead of Reed and Ball. Heat winners were Smitley and Ball.
Mansfield's Jose Marsh led all the way for his fifth pure stock win of the year in the Reedy's Engines, Kato's Bottle House, and A. J. Bros. Concrete #99. Hiram Bachmann tried to chase down Marsh late in the 15 lap race but settled for 2nd with points leader Fred Snyder in third. John Ruckman battled off Mike Graber for fourth. Chad Craver and Graber posted the heat wins.
Ken Yarosh of Wellington was out front all the way to lap 14 of the Pitt Stop Exhaust cruiser feature as Frank Oriti powered past but Yarosh reclaimed the top spot in turn two on the last lap to record his first Lakeville win. Paul McVicker was in the mix of things as he held second for the middle part of the race and finished up third in front of points leader Mason Radcliff and Mike Amstutz Winning the heat races were Oriti and McVicker.
With a couple of early crashes, the 20 car starting field for the  mini stocks was down to nine cars running at the halfway mark as Wooster's Gary Hensel Sr. went flag to flag for his first victory of the year. The Beckett's Auto Sales, TBS Carpet Outlet and Bargain Shed #28 was followed across the line by Dale Beckett, Brian Dawson, Kalvi Puru. and Willie Coblentz. Topping the heat wins were Beckett, James Stachler Hensel Sr. and Darrell Taylor Sr. with Justin Brown mastering the 'B' feature.
The fourth first time winner came from the mini trucks as North Lawrence's Bill Koot's set the pace all 15 laps. Points leader Tom Kemp worked his way into second with Joe Hoover, Chaz O' Dell and Jesse Combs rounding out the top five. Funk was the heat winner.

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, August 26, 2005
By Mike Swanger

On the racetrack, in the late model feature, Kristin Flory shot out to be the pace sitter with Eric Smitley taking second early on with Luke Bieri in third until lap 5 when he spun putting Jamie Reed, Brad Moore and Wooster's Charlie Duncan in the top five. Reed would bring the caution out on lap 10 and Moore would do the same on the next circuit as the restart would see Duncan and his American Payroll Advance, Ken Adams Trucking, and S & D Motorsports #17 take second from Smitley. Duncan would battle back and forth with Flory for the lead and finally secure the point on lap 17 and breeze away with his 7th win of the season as Flory took second and Smitley fended off Reed and last starting Tony Cline at the checkered flag. Flory and Bieri won the heat races.

Snyder and Bachmann topped the heat races.
Paul McVicker led the opening lap of the cruiser feature but after that it was all Fred West of Mansfield as the JJ's Auto Sales and Crossroads Trading Post # 71 went to victory circle for the third time this year. It took points leader Mason Radcliff all fifteen laps to go from 21st to second with Ken Yarosh, McVicker and Hud Wharton filling out the top five. Heat winners were Kyle Cline and West.

DUNCAN ROARS BACK TO CLAIM 35th CAREER WIN AT LAKEVILLE

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, August 19, 2005
By Mike Swanger

A lot of laps were turned at Lakeville Friday night with a complete show with three of the five class' running double features. The late model main got off to a nasty start as it was four wide coming out of turn two that did not work because Charlie Duncan, Mike Mizer, Jim Gingery and Skip McKinney made contact that sent McKinney into the backstretch wall and rolling over twice. He walked away but the #76 was finished for the evening. Duncan had to go to the pits to get a tire changed and restarted 13th. The restart saw Brad Moore power into the lead and held that position until Mizer took over on lap ten. Duncan and his American Payroll Advance, Ken Adams Trucking, and Leroy's Place #17 pulled back into the top five on that lap and took fourth from Kristin Flory the next circuit. Eric Smitley gave up third to Duncan on lap 17. Mizer had built up a lead but the caution flew on lap 18 and that put Duncan right on Mizer's bumper and with four laps to go, the Wooster driver finally overpowered Mizer for his 6th win of the season and 35th career win at Lakeville. Mizer held on to second with Moore third followed by Flory and Jamie Reed. The two front runners were also the heat winners.
Dundee's Fred Snyder went flag to flag for his fourth win of the year in the pure stock feature. The Bishop Collision Repair Center, C & W Excavating, and Dundee Grill #7 was pestered by Hiram Bachmann all race long with Jose Marsh out dueling Mike Graber and Don Baney for third. Roger Drouhard won the heat race.
The cruisers went double featuring with points leader Mason Radcliff of Big Prairie edging out Brett Burgess in the make up feature. At the line was the only time the Tioga Used Auto Parts and Convenient Food Market #69 led the race. Burgess held on to second with Mike Amstutz taking third and Paul McVicker scoring a fourth and Craig Fry claiming fifth. The regular feature had Sibila out front early again before sliding off the track with Hud Wharton inheriting the lead spot with Burgess in pursuit. On the white flag lap, they would bounce off each other with Burgess going nose first into the front wall and the Wooster based Wharton Excavating, SCFN Fuel, and Quality Fiberglass #27 stay straight on go to victory lane for the second time. Fred West, Ken Yarosh, Radcliff, and Bill Severe filled out the top five.
Big Prairie's Justin Brown returned to victory lane for the first time since opening night in the mini stock make up feature. Kalvi Puru was hounding the Beckett's Auto Sales and Lasting Impressions Tattoo #26 until he flipped in turn four. Sean Rush and Roger Rush Sr. tried to make a run on Brown but settled for second and third while Willie Coblentz and Dustin Cyrus rounded out the top five. Dale Beckett of Millersburg cruised to his fourth win of the season in the regular main. The Bargain Shed, Vinyl Graphics, and TBS Carpet Outlet #8 was chased across the line by Rush Sr., Rick Maffett Sr., Ron Miller, and Willie Coblentz.
Jeff Funk of Ashland took the Kato's Bottle House, Meyers Tires, and T. Garlick Excavating #21 into the winner's circle for the fourth time in the make up main of the mini trucks with Tom Garlick, Dave Caskey, Joe Hoover, and Chaz O' Dell following. Navarre's Brandon Craver parked the Thrifty Discount Muffler and CNC Tires #909 in victory lane for the sixth time in the regular feature. Mockler wins her first USAC Ford Focus feature at Lakeville

Lakeville Ohio
Saturday, August 13, 2005

by Mike Swanger

LAKEVILLE, Ohio -- Rain once again played a big part in Saturday's Open wheel show at Lakeville as rain fell before the races but Bob Schippers and crew was able to keep the track in shape and as the rain stopped, all the heat races for the USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Outlaw Midgets, Cruisers, Mini Stocks, and Mini Trucks were able to be raced . The USAC officials decided to cut the feature to 20 laps and after a flip by third generation driver Zach Gibson, the rain started up again. Tony Main was leading the race and on the restart, went high off of turn one allowing 17 year old Stephanie Mockler to take over and the rain intensified forcing the race to be checkered on the 11th lap and giving Mockler of Westfield Indiana her first Ford Focus win. Mizer seizes Lakeville's Triple Crown feature

Lakeville Ohio
Friday, August 12, 2005

by Mike Swanger

LAKEVILLE, Ohio -- It was round two of the Triple Crown Series for the Steel Block Late Models at Lakeville Friday night with Millersburg's Mike Mizer going flag to flag to claim his fifth feature win of the season.

Driving the Bishop Collision Repair Center and Swift Auto Parts #11, Mizer had to wait through a multitude of cautions before collecting the $1,000 winners purse. Behind Mizer was a heated battle for top five contenders that at one time or another included Kristin Flory, Gabe McIntire, Jerry Miller. Jamie Reed, Charlie Duncan and first round winner, Mike Lonas. McIntire was trying to pass Flory for second on lap 18 but spun out in turn two as the restart had Mizer, Flory, Reed, Duncan, and Miller lined up as Duncan powered past Reed on lap 23 with Reed then bringing out the caution on a spin on lap 25. Then on a lap 30 restart after Reed's second spin, Flory let her car get loose for a spin out. This restart saw Miller motoring past Duncan for second only to spin out with six laps to go. Benny Lester had now moved into contention running 3rd after Miller's miscue as McIntire had worked his way back to fourth and Jim Gingery easing into fifth. Duncan could not mount a charge on Mizer and as the checkered flag flew, McIntire edged past Lester for third. Mizer and Art Ball won the heat races with Skip McKinney taking the last chance race.

After missing a three weeks with a blown motor, Mansfield's Jose Marsh took the lead from Hiram Bachmann with five laps to go to post his fourth Pure Stock feature aboard the A.J. Bros. Concrete, Kato's Bottle House, and Reedy's #99. Bachmann held on to second as heat winner Fred Snyder scored a third with Shaun Cains and Chad Craver in pursuit.

James Gerbasi led the first lap of the Cruiser feature before Fred West took over for six laps as Brett Burgess led for one before Mason Radcliff took over and set the pace the rest of the way for his fourth win. The Tioga Used Auto Parts and Convenient Food Market #69 was chased across the line by last weeks winner, Hud Wharton, Bill Severe, Craig Fry, and Mike Clark in his first cruiser race. Wharton and Paul McVicker won the heat races.

Henry Britton of Mansfield stay's hot in the Mini Stock class as he took the lead from Sean Rush with three laps to go to notch his fifth win this year and his sixth straight top five finish. Rush kept second with Kalvi Puru taking a career best third followed by Willie Coblentz and Roger Rush Sr. Heat winners were Rick Maffett Sr., Coblentz, Jeremy Madison and Sean Rush. Michelle West of Mansfield won her first ever 'B' main.

The biggest field of Mini Trucks, 18, saw Navarre's Brandon Craver take the lead on lap three and never look back to chalk up his fifth win of the year. The CNC Tires and Thrifty Muffler #909 was hounded by Chaz O' Dell, Tim Jensen, points leader Tom Kemp, and Brandon Leyda. Heat Winners were Dave Caskey and Jensen.

MARKHAM FLIES TO BIG FOUR WIN AT LAKEVILLE

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, August 5, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Ashland's Ryan Markham led all the way in the 40 lap Big Four series to collect the $2,000 winners share and notch his first Big Four win since September 13th of 2002. The win was not without it's moments for the Biscotti's Restaurant, Park Ohio Industries, and Dor-Lo Pizza #5m as the backmarkers slowed Markham down and allowed Randy Scott and J.R. Gentry to close in on the rear bumper of Markham. Neither could ever make the pass for the lead with Gentry taking second with six laps to go when Scott's car got loose in turn one. Some great racing in the early part of the race saw Charlie Duncan, Rick Bond, Doug Drown, D.J. Miller, and Corey Conley changing positions on each lap. Bond dropped out with oil pressure problems while Duncan and Conley, the two co-points leaders before the race, got hooked together after a lap 24 restart, with Conley going to the tail. With nine laps to go, Scott Peltz moved into the picture by powering past Cline for fifth. Duncan, despite a broken thumb, held on to fourth as Drown finished seventh ahead of Dave Hornikel and Conley recovering to ninth. Markham, Scott, and D.J. Cline won the heats with Drown grabbing the last chance win.
Leading the opening three laps of the cruiser feature, Brett Burgess' right front tire went flat and gave the lead position to Wooster's Hud Wharton who then took the Wharton Excavating, Quality Fiberglass, and Baney Trucking #27 into victory lane for the first time ever, matching team driver Don Baney's effort in last weeks pure stock win. It was a very physical race with numerous cautions and in the end it was Ken Yarosh, Kyle Cline, Fred West, and Paul McVicker filling in the top five. Points leader Mason Radcliff was sidelined for the night in the heat race as he and Tony Cline got together with Radcliff's car breaking the axle and Cline's flipped onto it's roof. Heat winners were Mike Amstutz, Bill Severe, and Fred West.
For the second time in three weeks, Millersburg's Dale Beckett grabbed the mini stock feature win as took the lead away from Cody Rinard on the second lap and then battled off the runs of Justin Brown and last week's winner, Henry Britton. The Beckett Auto Sales, The Bargain Shed, and the TBS Carpet Outlet #8 of Beckett has only been out of the top five three times in thirteen races. Britton took second with three laps to go from Brown with Willie Coblentz and Sean Rush rounding out the top five. Britton, Travis Gray, Brown, and Rush posted the heat wins. Wooster's Gary Hensel Jr. won the 'B' Main
Mohicanville's Tom Kemp was the only front runner of the mini trucks to pocket is third win of the season and his 10th top five in 11 nights of racing. Brandon Craver's run at the end came up short for the win as Dan Burson, Jeff Funk and Bill Koots filled out the top five as Jesse Combs and Funk scored the heat wins.

KRISTIN FLORY IS LAKEVILLE'S LATE MODEL STORY
Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, July 29, 2005
By Mike Swanger

It was a cool night for some great racing at Lakeville with the racing finished at 11 p.m. Friday as Creston's Kristin Flory setting the pace all 25 laps to win her first feature of the year. The Medina Mountain Motors, Ray's Garage, and Winar Connections #u2 never was out of the woods until the checkered flag flew as after a 2nd lap yellow for the broke machine of Mike Mizer, Hans Gross put the pressure on after Charlie Duncan's spin on lap three. At the halfway mark, the caution was on for Jack Stewart's spin and before the green reappeared, Gross pulled off the track. On the restart, Tony Cline and Jerry Miller battled for second with Miller securing the runner up spot with seven laps to go as Duncan had worked his way back to 4th at the same time and with five to go Duncan powered past Cline for third. The yellow was out for Stewart's second spin with four to go. On this restart, Duncan and Miller went side by side with Duncan taking second on the white flag lap but could make a run on Flory. Cline claimed fourth in his 2005 debut in the late models as Jamie Reed scored a fifth. Duncan and Brad Moore topped the heat races.
Wooster's Don Baney went flag to flag to notch his first pure stock main as it was some wild action behind the Baney Trucking, Wharton Excavating, and 300 Tire Service #27. Mike Graber was fending off the charges of Fred Snyder and Shaun Cains for second place until Cains spun at the halfway marker. With three circuits to go, last weeks winner, Hiram Bachmann took over third from Roger Drouhard and slipped past Snyder the next lap and with the checkered flag in the air, Bachmann and Graber got together and never made it to the finish line as it was Snyder, Drouhard, Aaron Harris and Ken Yarosh following Baney across the line. Cains was the heat winner.
Points leader Mason Radcliff was the pace setter for the first seven tours of cruiser feature before Parma's Frank Oriti took over for one lap as Radcliff came back for a one lap run before Oriti and his Mars Trucking, Shaker Valley Foods, and Apache Auto Parts #3 returned to lead the last four laps to capture his third victory of the year. Radcliff held second with Kyle Cline, Mark Sibila and Paul McVicker in tow. Brett Burgess (lap 3)and James Gerbasi (lap 13) had strong runs going but both hit the wall hard to take themselves out of contention. Heat winners were Sibila and Radcliff.
Rick Maffett looked to be the man to beat early on in the mini stock feature but late in the race it was Mansfield's Henry Britton taking over and parking the Wright Choice Auto Sales, Carroll's Auto Wrecking, and Bargain Shed #81 in victory circle for the 4th time this year. The Rush's, Sean and Roger Sr. ran second and third with Jeremy Lucas and Ron Miller in pursuit. Shelby's Chad Friend topped the 'B' main with Robert Lapp, Britton, Coblentz, and Rush Sr. posting the heat wins.
Three different drivers led the mini truck main and in the end it was Ashland's Jeff Funk holding the checkered flag. Brandon Leyda and Tom Kemp each led for more than four laps each before succumbing to the Kato's Bottle House, Meyers Tires, and T. Garlick Excavating #21 of Funk. Last weeks winner, Brandon Craver worked his way to second before barely losing to Funk. Rounding out the top five were Kemp, Dave Caskey, and Sam Piper. Taking the heats were Craver and Kevin Lint.

MIZER & CRAVER POST 4th WINS AS BACHMANN, WEST, & BECKETT BECOME TWO TIME WINNERS AT LAKEVILLE
Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, July 22, 2005
By Mike Swanger

It was another action packed night of racing that had a little bit of everything and the last checkered flag dropping just past 11 p.m. at Lakeville . The late model feature had Millersburg's Mike Mizer shooting into the lead from his third starting position on the first lap and stay out front for all 25 laps. The Bishop Collision Repair Center and Swift Auto Parts #11 had built up a half a lap cushion when the caution came out on lap 18. That put Charlie Duncan on Mizer's tail as Duncan took the challenge to start last and if he could win, would collect a total of $1,000. Duncan moved into second because of the caution caused by second running Gabe McIntire spinning. With five laps to go, Duncan got sideways in turn four and flew through the infield giving second to Jamie Reed with Mizer pulling away for the win. First year driver Brad Moore scored a career high fourth with McIntire recovering to finish fifth. Kristin Flory had a rough night as mechanical problems in hot laps caused her to get upside down in hotlaps, came back to win her heat and then as she was running third at the halfway mark in the feature, got mixed up with a slower car and dropped to finish sixth. Mizer won the other heat race.
Hurricane Hiram Bachmann had the most exciting win of the night as the Ashland driver allowed Shaun Cains to set the pace for more than the first 14 laps before inching by at the line for the pure stock win. It was the second win of the year for the Hall's Auto Sales, Rahall Graphics, and Mufflers and More #92 of Bachmann and both have been by inches. Aaron Harris, Don Baney, and Mike Graber filled out the top five as Cains was the winner of the heat race.
Mansfield's Fred West went flag to flag to secure his second win of the year in the cruiser feature as the Crossroads Trading Post and JJ's Auto Sales #71 had to fend off race long challenges from Mason Radcliff. Taking the last to first challenge, Brett Burgess could only get to third with James Gerbasi taking fourth and Hud Wharton collecting fifth. Heat winners were Mike Amstutz, Todd Gallion, and Burgess.
Mini stock point leader Dale Beckett expanded his lead with his second win. The TBS Carpet Outlet, The Bargain Shed, and the Beckett Auto Sales #8 had Brian Dawson glued to the rear bumper with Henry Britton right in his tracks as Willie Coblentz and Jason King followed closely. Beckett, Justin Brown, Dustin Cyrus, and Ron Miller topped the heats with Ashland's Travis Gray winning the 'B' feature.
Dan Cline was the pacesetter for the first three laps of the mini truck main but after that it was all Brandon Craver for the win, his fourth of the season, in the C-N-C Tires and Thrifty Muffler #909 out of Navarre. Jeff Funk tried to reel in Craver late in the race but settled for second with Sam Piper, Chaz O' Dell and Gerald Pringle trailing. Tom Kemp and Piper claimed the heat wins.

DUNCAN, SNYDER, BURGESS & FUNK CONTINUE TO ADD LAKEVILLE WINS; BRAD HENSEL SCORES FIRST WIN OF YEAR

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, July 8, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Another fast moving show had the race fans headed home at 11 p.m. at Lakeville. A wild start to the late model feature saw Jay McDougal and Kristin Flory get a little wiggly in the first turn that allowed the second row of Rick Moore and Wooster's Charlie Duncan to pull alongside and make it four wide coming out of turn two with the S & D Motorsports, Leroy's Place, and Ken Adams Trucking #17 of Duncan charging down the back chute with the lead and would never give it up for his fifth win. Rick Moore, in his first outing of the year held on to second until he spun on lap seven giving Hans Gross the second position. Gross, coming off his first win on Monday, stayed within striking distance of Duncan until overheating problems sidelined him with four laps to go. After dropping to fourth on the start of the race, McDougal inherited second place with Flory recovering from a lap four spin to take back third. Teammates Dave Bucher and Eric Smitley rounded out the top five. Points leader Mike Mizer took the challenge of starting last and if he could win, would get $1,000. He made it to fourth at the halfway mark but slid off the track and finished seventh. Bucher and Flory won the heat races.
Fred Snyder of Dundee started on the pole and went flag to flag for the pure stock win, his third of the season aboard the Bishop Collision Repair Center, Eicher Construction, and Speedie Auto Salvage #7. Aaron Harris ran second for the opening four circuits before spinning out with Roger Drouhard taking the runner up position. Monday's winner, Hiram Bachmann started last and moved into third on lap five but could never pass Drouhard. Don Baney finished fourth followed by Denny Shears. Snyder was also the heat winner.
James Gerbasi was looking good out front of the cruiser feature but a caution flag at the halfway mark lined everybody back up double file, and on the restart, Loudonville's Bret Burgess took over the lead and hustled to his second win in the Loudonville Tire and Hague Crystal Clear Water #500. Fred West nipped Gerbasi at the line for second with Paul McVicker taking fourth ahead of Frank Oriti. Points leader Mason Radcliff elected to run the challenge of starting last and if he could win the feature, double the money. Sixth was his finishing spot. Winning the heats were Pauly Hess and Burgess.
In the mini stock feature, Tim Jensen had Wooster's Brad Hensel, Sean Rush, Henry Britton and Dale Beckett in pursuit until the caution flag waved on lap 11. On the restart, Hensel and Britton powered past Jensen as Beckett controlled fourth with Willie Coblentz fifth and when the checkered flag dropped, that was the way they finished. Coblentz, Rick Maffett Sr., Greg Breckler and Rush topped the heats as Woster's Jeremy Madison was awarded the 'B' Main win after Jeremy Lucas did not pass inspection.
Ashland's Jeff Funk took the lead on lap three from Rick Jensen to put the Kato's Bottle House and T. Garlick Excavating #21 truck back into the victory circle for the mini trucks. Tom Kemp took the challenge to double his money by starting scratch and winning but a second was the best he could do. Dan Cline, Bill Bardy, and Sam Piper rounded out the top five. Jensen and Kevin Lint paced the heats.

GROSS AND BACHMANN RECORD FIRST WINS AT LAKEVILLE
Lakeville, Ohio
Monday, July 4, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Two drivers ended up in victory lane for the first time ever on Mid Season championship night at Lakeville on Monday. Taking the lead on lap 2 after first lap leader Jamie Reed pulled off, Apple Creek's Hans Gross powered his way to his first win ever aboard the Gross Lumber, Mopar powered #7h. It was lapped cars that caused some nervous moments for the third generation driver as some contact was made with a couple of slower cars has the first year driver tried to weave through the pack. Kristin Flory came the closest to taking the win away in the early part of the race then Mike Mizer moved into second on lap 10 but Mizer slipped off the track on the next lap that allowed Flory, Jim Gingery and Charlie Duncan to move by and allowed Gross some time to fight his way through the back markers. Flory held on to her fourth second place finish of the year with Duncan and Mizer getting by Gingery late in the race for the top five. Gross also posted his first heat win earlier in the evening as Flory won the other late model heat.
Ashland's Hiram Bachmann's first win in the pure stocks was just the opposite of Gross' as the Hall's Auto Sales #92 never led a lap until he and Jose Marsh closed in on the finish line with Bachmann winning by inches. Marsh had the front running position for the 13 middle laps of the 15 lap event as Jeremy Lynch was the first circuit leader. Roger Drouhard ran a strong third with Fred Snyder and Shaun Cains rounding out the top five. Marsh and Hud Wharton posted the heat wins.
Mason Radcliff of Big Prairie and the Convenient Food Market and Tioga Used Auto Parts #69 went flag to flag for his third cruiser win to expand his points lead while Bret Burgess came all the way back from a pit stop halfway through the feature to grab second with Mark Sibila, Don Baney and Paul McVicker, who started 18th, filling out the top five. Heat winners were Burgess and Radcliff.
Another unpredictable mini stock feature saw Mansfield's Roger Rush Sr. take control of the last 6 laps to score his first win of the year in the Workman Home Improvement, Richland Lumber, and Fat Daddy's House of Bones #58. Henry Britton, Zero Walter, Willie Coblentz and points leader Dale Beckett trailed Rush at the line. Brian Smith, Britton, Beckett, and James Priebe paced the heats with Mansfield's Dustin Cyrus claiming the 'B' feature.
Pole sitter Brandon Craver of Navarre breezed to his third mini truck win of the year driving the Thrifty Muffler and CnC Tires #909. Rick Jensen worked his way through the field from his 11th starting spot to take second while defending track champion Jeff Funk took third in front of Chaz O'Dell and current point leader Tom Kemp, Heat Wins went to Funk and Craver.

DUNCAN GETS FIRST APA BIG 4 FEATURE WIN

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, July 1, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Although he had won the American Payroll Advance Big Four Series championship in 2002 and 2004, Wooster's Charlie Duncan had never won a Big Four feature in the previous 13 races. In front of a huge crowd at Lakeville Friday night, Duncan outdueled J.R. Gentry and Corey Conley in what many longtime Lakeville fans called one of the best if not the best feature ever raced on the 3/8 mile oval. Rick Bond jumped into the front spot from the outside pole position to lead the first lap before Conley took over the next lap as Duncan took third with Doug Drown fourth and D.J. Cline fifth. Drown would bolt by both Bond and Duncan on lap 5 and the first round winner looked like he may be on his way to his second win. On lap ten, Gentry slipped past Bond for 4th as Duncan would motor past Drown for second two laps later and then Gentry dropped Drown another place on the 14th circuit. On lap 16 Gentry got past Duncan for second with Conley out front as the caution flew for Ryan Markham. On the restart, Duncan floored the American Payroll Advance, Rod Eddleblute's Garage, and Ken Adams Trucking #17 to the topside of turn one and roared past both Conley and Gentry and from that point on, the threesome was never more than three car lengths apart with Conley taped to Duncan's rear bumper and Gentry in the low groove and with two laps to go, Gentry was able to edge into the lead for a few feet but Duncan charged back for his fourth win of the year and 33rd of his career at Lakeville as Gentry held on to second with Conley third. Cline came back to take fourth with Bond fifth as Drown dropped to 13th with mechanical problems in the last two laps. Mark Gardiner started 16th and climbed to a sixth place finish. Scott Peltz, Larry Holbrook, and Duncan topped the heats with Markham claiming the last chance race.
The American Payroll Advance steel block late model main started with Brad Moore on the outside front row and he would spin in turn four on the first lap collecting Duncan, who would only last five laps before going pitside. On the restart, Jim Gingery built up a big lead over Eric Smitley, Jay McDougal and Mike Mizer with Kristen Flory moving past McDougal on lap nine. The caution waved for Luke Bieri on lap 12 and on the restart, Mizer and Smitley battled side by side behind Gingery but on the 14th trip, Gingery pulled off the track and Mizer and his Bishop Collision Repair Center and Swift Auto Parts #11 started to stretch his lead out. Kristin Flory mounted a charge and took second from Smitley with three laps to go but Mizer of Millersburg was out of reach and collected his third win. McDougal claimed 4th with Dave Bucher scoring a fifth place finish. The heat winners were Duncan and Smitley.
Five different drivers had their hands on first place in the Pitt Stop Exhaust cruiser feature with Creston's Paul McVicker having it when it counted the most, at the checkered flag. James Gerbasi was lap one leader with Mark Sibila setting the pace the next five circuits with Brett Burgess being the leader on lap six, McVicker on seven and back to Burgess on eight. Points leader Mason Radcliff got his time up front for the next two laps with McVicker and the Ray's Garage, Scott Trucking, and Ernie's Transmission #u4 out front the last two laps followed by Radcliff, Young, Sibila, and Todd Gallion. Ken Yarosh and Mike Graber won the heats.
Three time defending track champion Dale Beckett of Millersburg led the last three laps of the Ray's Garage mini stock feature to post his first win of the year and expand his current point lead. Steve Miller set the pace on the first two laps before Ron Miller took over for four laps with Justin Brown leading the pack for the next six laps until Beckett and the Bargain Shed, TBS Carpet Outlet, and Beckett Auto Sales #8 finished it out. Brown finished second with Travis Gray, John Ohse, and Zero Walter in tow. Jeremy Hudson, Brown, Michelle West, Steve Miller and Tim Jensen notched the heat wins with Jeremy Lucas capturing the 'B' Main.

LONAS WINS LAKEVILLE'S MCINTIRE / LITZENBURG MEMORIAL

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, June 24, 2005
By Mike Swanger

The hot weather of summer brought out some excellent racing in all five classes on the Henry Mcintire / Randy Litzenburg memorial race The 40 lap Late Model feature started out with front row starters Jim Gingery and Kristin Flory opening up a big lead over the rest of the field with Gingery the leader. A lap 13 caution for Gary Curtis brought the pack back to the leaders as ninth starting Charlie Duncan was third and Mansfield's Mike Lonas in fourth with Mike Mizer and Hans Gross in the mix. Duncan and Lonas went back and forth for five laps before Lonas took over third on lap 18 as Gross dropped from contention. Mizer and Duncan then had a side by side duel as Lonas set sail for Flory and took second on the 24th circuit with Mizer securing fourth on the next lap. Lonas and the Smitley Towing and Catrone Trucking #e1 would power past Gingery on lap 27 and go on to the checkered flag and the $1,000 winners share for his 48th career win at Lakeville Speedway. Gingery would fade to finish sixth as Flory finished second followed by Mizer, Duncan and Gabe Mcintire. Heat winners were Flory, Mcintire, and Eric Smitley with Brad Moore capturing the last chance race.
Dundee's Fred Snyder led all the way for the Pure Stock win aboard the Eicher Construction, Speedie Auto Salvage, and Dundee Grill #7 for his second win of the season. Roger Drouhard ran a strong second for the first eight laps before giving way to Hiram Bachmann, who made a couple of runs on Snyder for the lead but could never get by. Drouhard kept third as Jose Marsh recovered from a charged caution on lap seven to finish fourth with Mike Graber scoring a fifth. Shaun Cains topped the heat race.
Another action packed Cruiser feature saw Parma's Frank Oriti motoring to the lead on lap four and then held off Brett Burgess the last seven laps to park the Mars Trucking, Safe Transit, and All Star Mufflers #72 in victory lane for the second time. Fred West settled for third with Mason Radcliff sneaking into fourth on the last two laps as Paul McVicker rounded out the top five. Oriti and West scored the heat wins.
Ed Harris bolted into the front runner's position and lead the way until a lap six yellow and on the restart, Mansfield's Tim Adkins took over and never looked back to claim his first Mini Stock feature win. Harris kept Dale Beckett at bay for second with 14 year old Cody Rinard posting a fourth followed by Ron Miller. Rinard, Adkins, Joe Simmons, and Beckett nabbed the heat wins while Sean Rush held on for the 'B' main win. Last weeks feature winner, Henry Britton went rolling over turn three in the fourth heat for the only red flag of the night. He was ok but the car was not.
Tom Kemp of Mohicanville started the season out with a win and then has had to be happy with four straight seconds but led all the way to pocket his second win in the Mini Truck main. Last weeks winner, Brandon Craver kept the pressure on but did a 360 spin on the last lap to let Jason Rohr take second. Craver recovered for third as Tom Garlick and Chaz O'Dell filled in the top five. Rick Jensen posted the heat win.
Friday, July 1st will be the second round of the Big Four Series for the Super Late Models with the regular Late Models, Cruisers and Mini Stocks in action while Monday, July 4th will be Mid Season Championships presented by Gross Lumber for all five classes. General admissions wrist bands from Friday's race will receive $2 off on Monday's race that will start at 7 p.m.

MIZER, MARSH, RADCLIFF, BRITTON, & CRAVER ADD TO THEIR LAKEVILLE WIN TOTALS
Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, June 17, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Great weather and a great racing surface made for some great races at Lakeville on Rod Eddleblute's Garage trophy night as Brad Moore grabbed the lead of the late model feature on the first lap but then it was veteran Art Ball taking over on the second circuit but after that it was all Millersburg's Mike Mizer. The Bishop Collision Repair Center and Swift Auto Parts #11 would only be challenged on restarts as midway through it was Eric Smitley giving it a shot after a lap 13 caution and then Charlie Duncan would come up short in his bid to overtake Mizer after a lap 17 yellow. Mizer, the first heat winner, would pull away for his second win of the year as Duncan, the second heat winner, battled off Hans Gross for second with Smitley dropping to fourth. Scoring his first top five was Brad Moore.
Shaun Cains set the pace for the opening three circuits of the pure stock main but when he slipped high in turn four on lap four, Mansfield's Jose Marsh motored into the top spot and from there on the A.J. Bros. Concrete, Kato's Bottle House, and Reedy's #99 would cruise to the checkered flag for his third win. Heat winner Fred Snyder recovered from an early caution to take the runner up position in the feature with Cains hanging on to third over Don Baney as Aaron Harris made the top five for the first time this year.
In the cruiser feature, Mark Sibila was the leader for the first two laps then lost the lead to Brett Burgess on lap three and then Big Prairie's Mason Radcliff took over the next time around and stretched his lead out and breezed to his second win of the year aboard the Tioga Used Auto Parts and Convenient Food Market #69. Kenny Yarosh, Sibila, Bill Severe, and Kyle Cline, his first top five, filled out the top five. Heat winners were Burgess and Radcliff.
Starting 12th and taking the lead with six laps to go, Mansfield's Henry Britton notched his third win of the year in the mini stock feature. The Carroll's Auto Wrecking and Wright Choice Auto Sales #81 was chased across the line by Glenn Elliott Jr., his second straight second place finish. Sean Rush was the leader for the opening nine laps before finishing third as Dale Beckett and Justin Brown filled out the top five. Winning the heats were Beckett, Joe Simmons, Britton, Elliott Jr., and Sean Rush. The 'B' main winner was Steve Miller with the 'C' going to Willie Coblentz.
Navarre's Brandon Craver took the lead on lap four from Tom Kemp in the mini truck feature and put the Thrifty Muffler and CNC Tires #909 into the victory circle for the second time. Trailing Craver across the line were Kemp, Jason Rohr, Sam Piper, and Chaz O'Dell. Jeff Funk and Kemp topped the heat races.

DUNCAN SCORES THIRD WIN; FOUR DRIVERS HIT LAKEVILLE'S WINNER'S CIRCLE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, June 3, 2005
By Mike Swanger

It was a smooth and racy surface with very little dust that made for a fast, action packed night of racing at Lakeville. For the late model main event, Kristin Flory was the leader for the opening ten laps from her pole position starting spot with Hans Gross, Gabe McIntire and Jerry Miller in pursuit. Back in the pack, eighth starting Charlie Duncan was storming his way into second just five laps in. The racing action was slowed on lap seven as McIntire and Mike Mizer made contact with Miller getting caught with no place to go but into McIntire's #38 as Mizer bounced off the front wall but continued in motion. McIntire's night was over and Miller's #22 lasted until lap 19. On the restart, the Wooster based American Payroll Advance, Ken Adam's Trucking, and the S & D Motorsports #17 of Duncan used the high groove to slip past Flory by inches for the lead, right before a spin and caution by Jesse Jones. Side by side action between Gross and Mizer had the fans on their feet and after Miller's 19th lap caution and when the green flag waved again, they both powered past Flory. But Gross' night ended on lap twenty as he spun in his own liquid spill. The last five laps saw Duncan pull away from Mizer with Flory third and Eric Smitley and Guy Hamby having their best finishes of the season. Miller and Flory won the heats.
Don Baney paced the first two circuits of the pure stock feature with Shaun Cains credited with top position on lap three. The next seven laps belonged to Jose Marsh with Dundee's Fred Snyder on his bumper. The ninth starting Bishop Collision Repair Center, C & W Excavating, Fankhauser Trucking #7 of Snyder also went to the high groove to claim the lead and survived a banzai move from Marsh on the last corner for his first win of the year as Marsh came to a stop and dropped to an eighth place finish as that allowed Hiram Bachmann, Baney, Cains, and Chet Mullins to finish second through fifth. Bachmann was the heat winner.
The only lap that really matters is the last lap and that was the only lap that Mansfield's Fred West led as he posted his first win in the cruiser feature. Jimmy Young led the pack from the start until lap seven when Paul McVicker moved into the #1 spot. Following a caution for last week's winner, Bret Burgess, Mason Radcliff took control from McVicker, who would bring out the caution with one lap to go. On the double file restart, West and his JJ's Auto Sales and Crossroads Trading Post #71 was on the highside of McVicker and pulled out the win on the one lap dash to the line. Young held on to third in front of teammate Frank Oriti as Ken Yarosh finished out the top five. Heat wins went to Burgess and McVicker.
It was back and forth in the mini stock feature with James Priebe and Howard's Ed Harris flip flopping the lead for the ten opening laps before Priebe's #7 went up in smoke, ending his race. Harris and his Engle Sales #92 then held off Glen Elliott Jr. the last five laps to notch his first win. Zero Walter finished third followed by Dale Beckett and Travis Gray. The five heat races were won by Priebe, Gray, Walter, Henry Britton and Rodney Lint. The 'B' main was nip and tuck between Jeremy Lucas and Steve Miller as one of them was always the leader and Lucas of Mansfield got to the checkered flag first when Miller spun coming out of turn four on the final lap.
Ashland's Tom Garlick built a big lead early in the mini truck main but Jason Rohr and Brandon Craver was working their way up to the front with Rohr taking the front spot with one lap to go and Craver taking second on the last lap. But post race inspection found both trucks with illegal weights and the Action Appliance, T. Garlick Excavating, and GPGood.com #77 of Garlicks awarded his first win. Tom Kemp, Chaz O' Dell, Sam Piper, and Dan Cline were then the top five. O' Dell and Craver won the heat races.

DROWN DOMINATES LAKEVILLE'S BIG FOUR OPENER

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, May 27, 2005
By Mike Swanger

A beautiful evening of racing on a smooth, racy surface greeted the 32 super late models vying for the win for the first round of the Big Four Series and when the checkered flag waved, Wooster's Doug Drown collected the $2,000 winners pot, his second in series history. Drown started on the pole but D.J. Cline grabbed the lead on the drop of the green for the opening three laps before Drown recaptured the lead and would stay out front for the rest of the 40 lap main. Corey Conley pulled into second place on lap seven with Scott Peltz taking third on the next lap dropping Cline to fourth and then on lap 11, Cline dropped another spot to Eric Myers. Following the only caution of the night, a lap thirteen spin by J.R. Gentry, Ryan Markham moved into fifth and for the next fourteen laps, he and Myers battled side by side for fourth with Markham taking control on lap 29. Meanwhile up front, Conley was trying to mount a charge on Drown but Drown weaved through the backmarkers with no problem to win by a couple of car lengths. Peltz cruised along for third followed by Markham as two time series champ, Charlie Duncan started 11th and eased his way into fifth on lap 34 as Cline also caught the fading Myers. Duncan, Drown, Conley, and Tom Baker posted the heat wins with Blaine Aber and Wes Morrison topping the last chance races.
It was another highly competitive cruiser feature as it was not decided until the last lap as Loudonville's Brett Burgess only lead of the night was on the last lap. Burgess' #500 started 11th and was fourth on lap four. third the next lap and moved into second when Mike Graber's motor expired on the next circuit. Frank Oriti was the leader from lap four after Graber set the pace for the first three laps. A caution with two laps to go set the stage for the finish with a side by side restart between Oriti and Burgess with Burgess using the high groove to power past Oriti for the win. Oriti was DQ'ed for not accepting a claim after the race so points leader Paul McVicker finished second with last weeks winner, Mason Radcliff scoring a third followed by Tim Shaver and Bill Severe. Heat winners were Mark Sibila and Oriti.
The mini stocks were 50 cars strong and when their night had ended, Mansfield's Henry Britton had notched his second win of the season aboard the #81. Starting 12th, Britton also only led the last lap as Willie Coblentz was the front runner for the first four laps before opening night winner Justin Brown took control until the last lap. Roger Rush Sr., Ron Miller, and Glen Elliott Jr. survived the action to finish in the top five. Winning the five heats were Brown, Kalvi Puru, Coblentz, Brian Smith and Steve Miller. The 'B' feature went to James Priebe after Chad Friend hit the wall coming out of turn four with the checkered flag waving.

DUNCAN HIGH GROOVES WAY TO SECOND LAKEVILLE WIN; CLINE, RADCLIFF, WALTER,& B. CRAVER POST 1st WINS

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, May 20, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Drivers are taking to the new banking of Lakeville's smooth 3/8 mile clay oval like bee's to honey as the high line is becoming the fast way around as Wooster's Charlie Duncan is proving in the late models. Starting ninth and using the high groove, Duncan and his American Payroll Advance, Rod Eddleblutes Garage, and S & D Motors #17, moved into second on lap eight behind Kristin Flory, who led from the drop of the green. Two laps later, Duncan powered by and cruised to his second win of the season and his 31st career win at Lakeville. Mike Mizer would inherit second place when Flory spun on lap 12, but could not catch Duncan. Hans Grossniklaus slipped past Dave Bucher with two laps to go to capture his best finish of third with Eric Smitley filling out the top five. Gabe McIntire and Brad Moore won the heats and for Moore it was his first ever in a late model.
Chad Craver led the first ten circuits of the pure stock feature but was being hounded by Lakeville's Tony Cline and when Craver slipped coming out of turn four, ninth starting Cline and the Wildwood Creations Home Improvement, Tom's Salvage, and Lakeville Speedway #243, used the high groove to claim the win and the Finishline Bar & Grill trophy. Hiram Bachmann finished second with Shaun Cains, heat winner Fred Snyder, and Craver rounding out the top five.
Kyle Cline set the pace for the first four laps of the cruiser feature as Ken Yarosh and Brett Burgess would scoot by at that point and they battled for the lead until lap eight when they got involved with a lapped and Burgess would suffer a flat tire and end his run for the win. On the double file restart, 10th starting Mason Radcliff and the Tioga Used Auto Parts and Convenient Food Mart #69 would grab the lead away from Yarosh and pull into the American Payroll Advance victory lane for the 1st time this year. Paul McVicker was third with Bill Severe and Mark Sibila following. Heat winners were Burgess and Fred West.
Finding the high line to his liking, Wooster's Zero Walter went flag to flag in the mini stock feature for his first win aboard the Tiger Trucking #0. The racing for the top five was the best action of the night with Jason King, John Ohse, Dale Beckett, and Travis Gray exchanging positions the last five laps before ending in that order. Henry Britton, Joe Simmons, Walter, Gray, and Rinard won the heats. For 14 year old Rinard, it was his 1st ever win. Glen Elliott Jr. chalked up the 'B' win.
Navarre's Brandon Craver took the Thrifty Muffler and C-N-C Tires #909 truck from eighth to first in one lap to claim the checkered flag in the mini truck main, Tom Kemp gave chase in second with Tom Garlick, Josh Adkins and Kevin Lint in pursuit at the line. Craver also won the heat race.

STORMS STOP LAKEVILLE'S BIG FOUR OPENER

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, May 13, 2005
By Mike Swanger

Heavy rains twice deluged Lakeville Speedway right after all the hot laps were finished, forcing postponement of the first round of the Big Four Series for the Super Late Models. The race has been rescheduled for Friday, May 27th with the Cruisers and the Mini Stocks on that nights racing agenda. After the first shower, the track was being run back in but the second shower about 20 minutes later soaked the track for the clincher. Wrist bands from tonights rain out will be honored then.
Several drivers were really hooked up to the new banking of Lakeville and it should be some fast racing in two weeks with the likes of Charlie Duncan, D.J. Cline, Corey Conley, Doug Drown, Ryan Markham, George Lee, J.R. and Jim Gentry, Eric Myers, Mark Gardiner, Rick Bond, D.J. Miller, Kristin Flory, Gabe McIntire, Dave Hornikel, Randy Scott, Eric Smitley, Hans Grossniklaus, Luke Bieri, Ron Stuart and more all had the hammer down during hot laps. Scott Peltz and Wayne Maffett Jr. arrived after the hot laps had ended

MIZER MARCHES TO LAKEVILLE LATE MODEL WIN

Lakeville, Ohio
Friday, May 6, 2005
By Mike Swanger

It was not a pretty start to the  late model feature at Lakeville as three caution flags were in the air before the first lap was completed. Once underway, Jay McDougal set the early pace with challenges from Hans Grossniklaus on the first four laps and then Kristin Flory made a run for the top spot for the next four circuits with Millersburg's Mike Mizer taking third from Grossniklaus on that lap. On a restart following a caution on lap nine, McDougal and Flory made contact and Mizer and the #11 took over the lead and from there on built a huge lead and won by a third of a lap. Last week's winner, Charlie Duncan moved into second on lap ten and then held off Mike Lonas for second with Grossniklaus dropping to fourth with Eric Smitley taking fifth. Flory and Art Ball won the heats.
Mike Graber led the pack for the first two laps of the pure stock feature with Mansfield's Jose Marsh claiming the lead on lap three for three laps and then Fred Snyder outdueling Marsh for the next three circuits only to have Marsh recapture the top spot on the white flag lap and take the Cement Products, Kato's Bottle House, and A.J. Bros. #99 into victory lane for the second week in a row. Snyder was on his bumper when the checkered flag flew as Hiram Bachmann, Don Baney, and Chad Craver filled out the top five. Snyder was the heat winner.
Another tight race for the cruiser feature was contested with Bill Goerz and Mason Radcliff flip flopping the lead for the first nine laps before Goerz took over for good on lap ten. The Coshocton driver and his B&B Poured Walls #55 also had to battle off Bret Burgess and last week's winner, Frank Oriti. Paul McVicker finished fifth. Heat winners were Fred West, Ken Yarosh, and Oriti.
In the mini stocks main, Ron Walton was the leader for the opening two laps then gave way to Brian Smith, who was the leader for the next three laps. Starting 19th, Mansfield's Henry Britton sliced his way into the lead at that point as the Carroll's Auto Wrecking and Wright Choice Auto Sales #81 kept Travis Gray at bay for the win. Dale Beckett, Tim Jensen and Roger Rush Sr. rounded out the top five. Sean Rush won the 'B' Main with Beckett, Smith, Zero Walter, and Rush Sr. scoring heat wins.
Ashland's Jeff Funk controlled the mini truck feature until lap 8 when Brandon Craver moved into the top spot, but spun going into turn two and gave the lead and win to the Kato's Bottle House and T. Garlick Excavting #21 of Funk. Last weeks winner, Tom Kemp took second followed by Jason Rohr, Craver, and Chaz O' Dell. Craver won the heat race.
This Friday night will be round one of the Big Four Series for the Super Late Models paying $2,000 to win. The Cruisers, Mini Stocks and the Mini Trucks will be in action beginning at 7:30 p.m.

FAMILIAR NAMES

Friday, April 29, 2005

The late models began their season with Brad Moore, in his first year in the late models, leading the first circuit but after that it was all Wooster's Charlie Duncan. Driving the Mike Lonas owned American Payroll Advance, Rpm Motorsports, and Reedy's #5, cruised to his 30th career win at Lakeville. A lap 21 caution closed things up but on the restart, first heat winner Duncan pulled away from Kristin Flory to close out the win. Flory had pulled into second on lap six and settled for second as Gabe McIntire and Mike Mizer put on the best action of the race as they flipped flopped third and fourth after the lap 21 restart with McIntire, who won the second heat, clinching third. Veteran Art Ball rounded out the top five. After the race, Duncan did a Polish victory lap in memory of Gary 'Twink' Forest who passed away over the winter.
Mansfield's Jose Marsh went flag to flag for the win in the pure stock feature for his fourth career win at Lakeville. Marsh, in the Cement Products, Kato's Bottle House, and A.J. Bros Concrete #99 held off a charge by Fred Snyder on the last two laps. Hiram Bachmann, Don Baney, and Mike Graber followed. Snyder won the preliminary race.
Early on, it was back and forth for the lead of the cruisers as Parma's Frank Oriti and Brett Burgess battled with Burgess taking the lead on lap six and looked to be on the way to the American Payroll Advance victory lane, but with four laps to go, sparks flew from under the #500 and Burgess pulled off the track with two laps to go and the Mars Trucking, All Star Mufflers, and Apache Auto Parts #72 of Oriti claimed his ninth career win. Fred West recovered from a lap two wreck to take second with Paul McVicker grabbing third. Jimmy Young scored a fourth while Brad Napier nabbed fifth. Heat winners were Mason Radcliff and Burgess.
It was the usual wild and wacky action during the mini stock feature as Travis Gray set the pace for the first two laps with Tim Jensen out front on the third trip around but after that it was all Big Prairie's Justin Brown. After the half way mark, Brown and his Beckett's Auto Sales and Lasting Impressions Tattoo #26 pulled away for his first career win. Gray and Jensen went back and forth for second and third as they finished that way. Jeremy Lucas worked his way into a fourth place finish with Ed Harris scoring a fifth. Heat wins went to Ron Miller, Roger Rush Sr., Dale Beckett and Brown. John Ohse overtook Glen Elliott Jr. late in the race to capture the 'B' main.

In the rain shortened mini truck feature, Mohicanville's Tom Kemp notched his second career win in the #34 truck as Jeff Funk won the heat.
